New Highway

[edit]

There is no mention of the 'modern' highway, which replaced the original road. I believe it was constructed in the 1960s. 189.188.217.59 (talk) 07:10, 6 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Moved article to Alberta Highway 93?

[edit]

I was wondering if the Icefields Parkway article should be moved and be part of Alberta Highway 93? I’ve noticed that currently Alberta Highway 93 redirects to Icefields Parkway; however in doing so it omits the southern 35 km section of AB Hwy 93. The following redirects take place:

I recognize there are jurisdictional issues with AB Hwy 93, where as the entire highway is maintained by Parks Canada as its within Banff and Jasper National Parks. As such, it’s not included Alberta Transportation documentation but is still within the province of Alberta. I’m proposing that the main article for Icefields Parkway be redirected to Alberta Highway 93, similar to how Bow Valley Parkway is a subset of Alberta Highway 1A. I’m proposing the following changes:

Any thoughts? — Preceding unsigned comment added by MuzikMachine (talkcontribs) 19:31, 7 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Icefields Parkway is a common name, however it limits the article from discussing the entire Alberta Highway 93, so I support the move, and creating sections discussing the different sections of highway. Banff–Windermere Parkway is a common name for a highway that's almost entirely in British Columbia, but if it was the only British Columbia article, it wouldn't allow the Kootenay section. So I reluctantly support your three article proposal, however I think each one should have references supporting their individual notability. 117Avenue (talk) 02:47, 9 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi 117Avenue, I thought about before and what if it maintained a 2 article setup - Alberta Highway 93 and British Columbia Highway 93? The Banff-Windermere could be a subsection of the British Columbia Highway 93 (as the majority of it is in BC), and the Alberta Highway 93 article could have a cross-reference to BC Hwy 93 (i.e. one of the redirect "Click here for main article" links). Something like
* Alberta Highway 93: main article for all AB Hwy 93
* British Columbia Highway 93: main article for all BC Hwy 93 (no change)
* Banff–Windermere Parkway: redirects to British Columbia Highway 93#Banff-Windermere Parkway
* Banff-Windermere Highway: see above
* Icefields Parkway: redirects to Alberta Highway 93#Icefields Parkway.

Stamp it up. I fully support MuzikMachine's three article proposal above. It is the most logical and clean way to tackle the uniqueness of this interprovincial highway. The variant solution of two articles is not necessary. Hwy43 (talk) 18:45, 12 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merge into Alberta Highway 93

[edit]

Icefields ParkwayAlberta Highway 93 – Icefields Parkway is a major segment of Alberta Highway 93, but not the entire route. Portions of AB Hwy 93 are part of the Banff-Windermere Parkway and concurrent with Alberta Highway 1. The article can be included under Alberta Highway 93#Icefields Parkway. Previously at RM, comments below were made during that discussion

I propose that Icefields Parkway be merged into Alberta Highway 93#Icefields Parkway so that there is one article for Alberta Highway 93 - consistent with other named and numbered highway pages in Alberta. MuzikMachine (talk) 21:14, 26 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Enough discussion! Do! 117Avenue (talk) 01:48, 29 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
